Ripple Control

If you have no or intermittent hot water and use a hot water cylinder (water not heated by gas), you may live in an area affected by Ripple Control.

Ripple Control

Ripple Control is a load management system used to manage electricity demand. Electricity providers use this system to turn off hot water systems during peak demand times, especially in colder months. Because of this, if you use most of the hot water in the cylinder, it may not heat back up during high-demand hours. This can mean your cylinder could take as long as 6-8 hours to heat back up again.

You can check if you are in a Ripple Control area on the Aurora website here. The website will also indicate if the Ripple Control is in effect.

If there is no hot (or warm) water and it doesn’t heat up after several hours, and you are not in an area affected by Ripple Control, check the fuses and switch next to the hot water cylinder. If you have checked these and still do not have hot water, please lodge a TAPI maintenance request and phone our office at 03 466 7783 to ensure we receive your request.
