Importance of Meth Testing

As property managers, we are increasingly witnessing an increase in methamphetamine contamination in homes across Dunedin. We strongly encourage all landlords to invest in meth testing at the beginning and end of every new tenancy.

Importance of Meth Testing

This issue is not limited to specific suburbs of Dunedin either, there is a notable increase in meth use across Dunedin, affecting various areas citywide.

To address this growing concern, Click Property Management is implementing a meth testing service for landlords at both the start and end of each tenancy. This approach ensures landlords have evidence to hold tenants accountable for contamination, enabling claims for damages through the Tenancy Tribunal.

In our experience, despite compelling evidence such as police reports, photos, and other documentation, tribunal decisions often do not favor landlords without proof that the property was free of meth contamination prior to the tenancy. A pre-tenancy meth test provides this essential baseline, ensuring the property is certified clean before new tenants move in.

Whether contamination results from tenants, illegal subletters, or visitors, meth testing protects landlords by holding the tenant responsible for any damage or cleaning costs required.

By adopting regular meth testing, landlords can safeguard their properties and maintain accountability, ensuring a safer rental environment for everyone involved.

At Click Property Management, we rigorously screen every tenant to the best of our ability. However, situations and circumstances change which can result in the uptake of meth during a tenancy. Employing this opt out service helps us do our due diligence for our landlords and tenants.
