End of Tenancy Process

We are approaching a time when many fixed-term tenancies, especially for student flats, are coming to an end. With this in mind, we thought it would be a good opportunity to share some reminders on what to do at the end of your tenancy.

End of Tenancy Process

First, double-check the end date of your lease in your tenancy agreement and ensure you pay rent to the final day of your tenancy. Your property manager will inform you if any additional funds are required.

Next, sign the bond refund form and pass it on to your flat mates to ensure everyone has signed it before returning it to your property manager.

Remove all your belongings and dispose of any rubbish—rubbish removal can be expensive and may be deducted from your bond if not done before vacating the property. We have no ability to store your goods beyond the end of the tenancy.

Leave the home in a reasonably clean and tidy state. Refer to your entry condition report for guidance. If in doubt, contact your property manager.

Ensure that any furnishings provided when you moved in, or that were already in the property, are left in reasonable condition.

Schedule the cancellation of your power and gas services for the property. If you are in Dunedin, Wi-Fi can often be transferred to a new property, but if this doesn’t apply, be sure to schedule its cancellation as well.

Return the keys to our office on the last day of your tenancy.

Finally, your property manager will conduct a final inspection, discuss any issues and then organise for your bond to be refunded to you.
